mostly for Crit

Critter, I don't know if you read my blog. But!

Today, some guy at church quoted the entire Saint Crispian's speech. The whole thing. At least the part we learned, and a whole bunch leading up to it.

And there wasn't one soul there who could appreciate it in the way that I appreciated it.

"Be in their flowing cups freshly remembered"-------(sustain it)

Maybe those of you who were there for the Great Snow Fort Fight of Ought One (I really have no idea what year it happened) would have had a good chuckle, too.

Hi! Yes, I follow. :)

I have to admit that I had to look up that speech. Heard of it, no idea what it was. So I looked at Wikipedia. And I am still wondering what in the world that could possibly have to do with whatever was covered in church. I would love to hear how that was relevant. HELP! because I just haven't been able to put it together.... I've been rolling it over in my head and I got nothin'.

That. Is. Awesome.

And the great snow fort of ought ought was awesome. It was before my mission. That's all I know.

Did he do a good heroic build in there? I sure hope so. That would have woken up anyone snoozing on the back row!

Christi--it was mostly funny to me because we studied that speech in Classical Voice to learn how to use our voice. It's long and we had to memorize it with vocal "choreography", it crescendoed in the middle, at the top of your lungs. It was the epitome of loud, annoying things that acting majors did when we all got together on the slab at the HFAC. Did I mention it was loud? It's a war rally cry!

To the gentleman's credit (HC speaker), he was using it as an example of overcoming obstacles in the face of daunting odds. Kind of a David and Goliath story, but with a Shakespearean twist. And a lot louder. A lot.

And Crit? He didn't even respect the meter of the speech! He totally botched uppers and downers, ignored the swoops, and most definitely did not build to anything. Certainly nothing heroic.

Thanks Heath, Ought Ought. That's better than Ought One anyway.

Oh, I can just SEE and HEAR the whole Davis clan (not the theater class) on the slab in front of the HFAC working on that. But, I would really have liked to have been there in ought ought for whatever snow fort fight you're talking about--and seeing your dad right in the thick of it! Was the high council speaker really louder than a bunch of kids at the HFAC? That must have been... odd....

I think we need some photographic evidence of the winners of that snow fight...

A HC speaker? That's awesome! Poor Dad has always been accused of being a perfect HC speaker- very dull. Love ya, Dad!

I love that speech. Remind me to pull it up on YouTube today and introduce it to Esther. She'll love it!
