Tonight's menu consisted of citrus pesto on linguini with broccoli on the side.
The broccoli (by Mr. Yin) was perfect and delicious.
The linguini (by me) was perfect and al dente.
The citrus pesto (by me) was a bust.
Citrus pesto turns out dramatically different than imagined when you only have a fledgling basil plant from which to pluck basil leaves.
Too many pine nuts, not nearly enough basil.

I would like a little more information on what Mr. Yin did to the broccoli. As a broccoli grower, I'm always interested in different ways of dealing with it. We often resort to steamed with lemon, which is just fine by me.
A great story with a slightly sad ending. I was nearly in tears! :(
Well. Since you asked.
Mr. Yin cuts up all the broccoli (including the stems, he cuts the outer skin off and then chops) and then he heats up about 1o r 2 tbs olive oil in the wok, then throws in the broccoli. He stirs it around for about 2 minutes, then adds about 1/2 cup water and lets it heat up for a few minutes and then puts a lid on it and lets it steam after salting and peppering it.
He likes it to be soft enough the fork goes through without much effort, but they're still bright green and haven't lost their shape. Not soggy but not crunchy.
If you need more information, let me know!
Sometimes if he's feeling ambitious, he'll throw some minced garlic into the oil before he adds the broccoli.
